Swiss Pairs Congress

Swiss Pairs Congress - 4th February 2024

The congress is open to ALL players at ALL levels (no restriction on MPs).   Please see the detailed information below.

The SA Bridge Association Swiss Pairs Congress be held on Sunday, February 4th from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM at Unley.

It is open to ALL players at ALL levels. Members of other clubs are also invited to participate.
Congress Director:  David Anderson

Session Times: 9.30 am to 1.00 pm and 1.30 pm to 5.00 pm.

The Swiss pairs will be played both in the morning and afternoon. Where possible entrants shall be divided into three sections, Open, <500 masterpoints each, and <100 masterpoints each, bearing in mind that each section must have an even number of players.

Pairs will then play in the nominated section throughout the day.

A Swiss draw will be used for each round after the first, so from round two onwards pairs will be playing against opponents with a similar aggregate to themselves.

Cash prizes for:

  • Open – First, Second and Third place
  • Restricted – First and Second place
  • Novice – First and Second place (depending on number of entries)

Entry Fee:

$80 per pair – Attendance at both sessions is compulsory (includes sandwich lunch and the table fees for both morning and afternoon bridge sessions for 2 pax). Registrations close on Thursday, 1st February at midnight. Late registrations may be accepted at the discretion of the club if we need to make up even number of pairs.

How it works:

Scoring will be by match points (normal pairs scoring). Competitors will play a succession of 8 board matches, earning red master points for each match they win.

A Swiss draw will be used for each round after the first, so from round two onwards, pairs will play against opponents with a similar aggregate. The field will be divided into sections during the lunch break.

Lunch Arrangements:

A sandwich lunch will be provided. Tea and coffee are now available at the café bars in the main room and in the front lounge.  A vending machine in the front lounge also provides soft drinks and snacks.

Registrations are closed for this event.
