Leads, Signals & Discards
Guest Lecture presented by David Parrott (Silver Grandmaster)
This class presents the various techniques players can use to signal through their leads and discards to establish their favourable position in a NT contract. When playing bridge you will be a defender on half the hands. You will also be the defender on lead in 25% of the hands (as many times as you will be declarer). Therefore, to achieve better results, it is important to improve your defense. When defending your goal is to prevent declarers making their contracts; or, if this is not possible, to ensure they take as few tricks as possible. We will consider some basic principles for opening leads and methods of signalling to enable you to communicate (legally) with your partner when defending. Opening leads and signalling are two very important aspects of defense in which your goal is to prevent delarers from making their contracts. You will also play some hands which will illustrate these ideas. Topics:
